How should I backup my scanned photos?
We only use good quality disks so they will last for many years if properly looked after. However it is always wise to have a plan for backing up the scans as well as any digital photos you may have. There are several options you might consider.
Have a backup disk
We can let you have a backup disk with your photos on. You should then store that disk in a safe place and not use it unless you really need to. Ideally you should check the disk is not deteriorating at least annually and you should keep the disk in a different location to the disk you would normally use.
Keep a backup copy on a hard disk
At the moment hard disks are the cheapest method of backing up your photos. However they can suffer damage and files do get lost from time to time.
Use a backup service
The safest method is to use a backup service. There are several services online (we recommend the mozy.com service - see below). These services will store your files in a secure, fire proof location. Theses services keep multiple copies of files in case of disk failure and are the only really safe way to store files.
