How should I post my photos?

We understand that photos are precious objects that far outweigh their actual value and so we recommend you pack them carefully.

However photos are not the most fragile itesm ever posted so don't go overboard.

The most important thing to remember is that under no circumstances do you want your package to break open. We recommend putting a label with your name and address on inside the package you send to us. That means if for any reason they did go astray in the postal system then there is an address to which they can be returned.

It is important to avoid any dust getting at the photos. It is amazing what a difference even small amounts of dust can make to the scanning process. So don't use anything to pack your photos that might produce dust. If possible give them a clean before you send them. We do some dusting ourselves but two cleans are always better than one. If you do clean them then be very careful and only do it if you know what you are doing.

But don't use water to clean your photos, especially slides and negatives. Water can cause major problems with photos.

This also means it is wise to make sure that water can't get at your photos when you pack them. We recomment putting them inside a plastic bag before you put them in the package.

We think that the good old Post Office actually does a pretty good job but when you post to us make sure you use a service that will track where your package is. That way it is much easier to find them if they do go astray.

So pack them so they don't move around inside the package. Make sure they are safe from water damage. Send them so the package can be tracked.
