Photos and Prints to CD/DVD

(see other photo/slide scanning options here)

Why should I bother to get my photos scanned to disk?

  • Photos deteriorate with time and are liable to get damaged whereas once scanned to disk they can be preserved as if they were taken yesterday.
  • Photos on disk can easily be duplicated allowing family members and friends to have their own copies.
  • Digital photos can be printed cheaply and easily (we can arrange this for you as well).
  • Photos on disk can be used in many ways e.g. digital photo frames, slide shows, played on DVD player, etc.
  • Photos on a CD or DVD can be easily stored and preserved for future generations.

Why should I get you to scan my photos to disk?

  • We use professional equipment to scan your photos producing results far superior to all cheap scanners. Quality should count when you are preserving photos for future use.
  • Unless you intend to scan many thousands of pictures it's cheaper to get your photos scanned by us than doing it yourself.
  • Scanning using cheap non-professional equipment takes a very long time to do - we can do it far quicker and with better results. If you scan your own pictures it will take you many, many hours to complete, time you could use in much better ways.
  • Scanning is a very technical process that requires experience to be successful. We have the experience that makes the difference.
  • We take great care over every scan we produce so we can get the very best results from the photos we scan to disk.

What are the options?

Bronze standard

  • This is the economy version where your photos are bulk scanned by machine.
  • Each scan is then examined by us to ensure that the scans are up to our high quality standards.
  • We now also include red eye removal as part of this package.
  • Scan are done using the very latest Digital ICE dust and scratch removal technology.

Gold Standard

  • Hand scanning for those who require very high quality results. We scan each photo by hand adjusting the scanner to get the most we can from each photo.
  • Ideal for very old or damaged prints that would not go through a bulk scanning system.
  • For those who put quality above the cost.
  • Also includes red eye removal as standard.
  • Scand done using the latest Digital ICE dust and scratch removal technology (where appropriate).

Professional Standard

This is for professional photographers or serious amateurs who would like to have a say in what happens with the scan as we do it. It might include the chance to see a set of scans done with different scanner settings for comparison, etc. Please contact us if you require this standard of scanning.

Scanning Resolutions

There are also three scanning resolutions available for each standard:

  • 150 dpi - good for smaller screen uses (e.g. small to medium size digital photo frames and small prints).
  • 300 dpi - good for larger screens and duplicate printing (e.g. printing at the same size as the current photo)
  • 600 dpi - best quality from photos (any higher tends to produce lower quality scans). Good for all uses including enlargements, large screens, etc.

File Types

We can scan to either jpg (JPEG) or tiff formats. jpg suits nearly all uses and is the normal format we produce files in. There is a surcharge for tiff format.

The options for scanning prints can seem overwhelming. We understand this and try to make things as simple as possible. You tell us what you want to use the scans for and we will advise on the best way to achieve your goal.

We like to help as much as we can and so encourage you to contact us and ask as many questions as you like.
